Camp Don Lee

This is the time of year that we experience traffic backups with people trying to get to their vacation destination, which on the East Coast, is generally the Outer Banks of North Carolina.  We explored last weekend, one of North Carolina’s Inner Banks destinations.

Enjoy,

A couple of years ago my oldest daughter Caitlin worked as a Duke Divinity Intern at Camp Don Lee, which is located on the Neuse River below Oriental, North Carolina.

“Don Lee Camp & Retreat Center is a Camp and Retreat Center affiliated by faith with The North Carolina Conference of the United Methodist Church and is operated by NC United Methodist Camp and Retreat Ministries, Inc.”

As you drive up to the camp you see the camp sign and swimming pool.

The pool is chlorinated but is alive with tadpoles and other aquatic critters.

While touring the camp, you can’t help but to notice the quiet, laid back atmosphere that surrounds the whole area.

We headed over to the sailing center as soon as we got there. Inside the center is a ladder that goes up to the crows nest. As you can see, the camp has a lot to offer.

What is important sometimes is not the most exciting ride at a theme park, but the time when the gadgets are put away and you stop to hear yourself think. You stop to hear what your kids are talking about and they you.  This is the type of place that your nerves can heal and your mind can be filled full of imagination and joy.

This is what Urban Farm Lifestyle tries to bring to your attention. The time that is need to keep your body fit, eat foods that are nutritious and natural, and above all taking the time to enjoy moments with family.

When our girls were younger, Molly and I always looked for a place to go during the summer that gave us a safe feeling but also had activities. We always went to different camps in Virginia, but would have loved to have gone to a place like Camp Don Lee.

Quick Tip

“It’s all about the experience.

We’ve got the best food you’ll ever eat (sorry Grandma).

We’ll take you out on a sailboat to relax,

or we’ll let you take the helm and go on an adventure.

You might even see the most beautiful sunrise of your life

(if you didn’t stay up all night after the campfire and s’mores).

Everything we do is about creating a

meaningful and memorable experience for you and

your family, church group, college group,

scout troop, or conference.”
